Comprising a stationary base unit and a moveable carriage, linear motion slides use a driving mechanism in order to operate. The carriage and base units are typically constructed from cast iron, steel or aluminium. Pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders, using gas or a liquid pressurised piston may be used to set the linear placement of the carriage. The result is a highly efficient piece of equipment that can reduce the problem of stick-slip.
