Tektronix, Inc., often referred to as "Tek", is an American company well-known for producing measurement and testing devices, such as logic analysers, oscilloscopes, and video and mobile test protocol equipment. Melvin J. Murdoch and C. Howard Vollum invented the first triggered oscilloscope soon after the end of World War Two and subsequently founded Tektronix in 1946, selling their model 511 for twice as much as oscilloscopes sold by the then market leaders, DuMont Laboratories. Tektronix remained an independent company until 2007, when it became a subsidiary of Fortive, part of the Danaher Corporation. Tektronix is strongly linked with several charities, notably the Tektronix Foundation and the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust in Vancouver, Washington. Over the years, Tektronix has employed some notable figures, for example, Jean Auel, a technical writer, better known for being the author of the best-selling 'Clan of the Cave Bears' novels, and a director of the company, and Merrill A. McPeak, who was a U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff. With headquarters in Portland, Oregon, Tektronix has always been a highly successful company, and in 2006, generated revenue of over a billion dollars. Distrelec sells many Tektronix products, including oscilloscopes, spectrum and logic analysers, laboratory power supplies and function generators.
